Conversations -  are they subjective or objective ?

Imagine a term such as “Investment Analyst”  or “Financial Planner” .  Are these authorites independent or are they guided by the commission which they earn as a result of “taking care “  are “playing”  with your money ?  At the end of the day its you and not them who take and suffers the risks and risk factors .  Simple as that.

Imagine a situation where someone else rakes off the top – be it eBay or a mutual fund .  There costs are always paid .  Yet its the consumer who has slim pickings at it all. Imagine that.

read something interesting the other day from Tisa Silver at the Investing blog on Bizzia. The idea of saving vs. investing was looked at. In these tough economic times, saving is on the rise as people worry about their financial situations. Current issues in the stock market has made investing an object of fear for many. However, in both of these cases, the motivating factor is fear. It is, perhaps, not the best idea to make such decisions based on fear. Tisa offers this insight into how you should decide whether to save or invest:

What is the goal and how far into the future is the goal? How much risk are you willing to take in order to achieve the goal? What rate of return is necessary in order to achieve the goal?

If your goal is to build an emergency fund that provides you with liquid assets in case you need immediate access to them, then saving is a good idea. Build up your emergency fund. But remember that saving is a form of investment as well. You receive a return from the money you put in a savings account. So think about how you can increase your yield and get the most bang for your buck.

If your goals include building up a nest egg for a comfortable retirement, putting your kid through college or some other long-term financial goal that requires better returns, then investing can be a good choice. Over time, the stock market has always gained. (Although I suppose there’s a first for everything.) Individual stocks may not do well, but the overall market wins out. Which means that with a good strategy, you are likely to get adequate returns. It’s why I like index funds.

At any rate, it is important to throttle your fear in either case. If you are saving only because you’re are afraid of what could happen to you immediately, instead of as part of an overall plan for financial security and freedom, you will likely stop when the threat of recession recedes. And if you are afraid of investing because of the current downcycle, you may never get the returns you need to reach your long-term goals.

           The major problem here is that first of all Bob is wasting vital time and energy.  He could devote his time and effort to better pursuits.  Not only that other people involved in this trade have false values of “winning the big one”, and are not good examples to put it to the point – of fine role models to copy.  It is often noted that those lavish casinos are not “built on the money of winners”.  The odds are against Moe and his buddies.  Any wealth they obtain will be short lived and in essence will be taxed back by the system.

           Bob and his friends may well justify their sport as “recreation” , “socialization”  and interracting with friends.  In reality it has little to do with that if anything.   It all comes down to poor self image.  What you see is what you get , on top of that hanging around with similar minded and focused individuals is not just a poor use of time – its a poor investment of time and limited resources when it comes down to personal asset oppulence.

    Many people avoid the road to success and great wealth and riches basically because of poor self image.  Its all for your best interest – yet few people really the necessary self introspection needed to take stock of what they are selling , and have the courage next to go ahead with the necessary improvements and pruning to “remove deadwood”  , improve their self image and internatilizations and get on with their lives and the accumulation and growth of the nest eggs.

I saw this in my partner Bill Piker.  I saw it in myself – shirking from bills , trying to intimidate others for my own success ( or so I thought).

I remember trying to intimidate one young fellow , who out of the goodness of his heart , had tried to help with a business I was working to develop. This fellow in the end loant me computer equipment , did free tech calls on the drop of a hat, and in essence was just trying to be helpful. 

Rather than being grateful , I intimidated and goaded him for even more.  This was without payment or even promise of payment. 

Did I know or appreciate that commercial firms would charge for each of these support calls , when I called basically because the plug was pulled out of the machine ?  No I would bellow – “I could of gone to Mind Computers”

In the end the firm ran out of cash  and closed.  My greed and ultimate stupidity led me to this .  Instead of being grateful , being a man of morals and a person of his or her word , I fell victim to my own lack of morals and ultimately poor self image.

There is a saying -” What comes around goes around”.  I hope to pay back this fine fellow one day in the future.
