The Sign of Wealth – A Rolex – Is it Genuine ?

August 26th, 2007

They say the a sucker born every minute but you’re not a sucker if you intentionally know what you are getting into. On a recent trip to New York City, I knew that Canal Street was the place I could find the not-so-elusive fake Rolex watch. Sure enough, I had to walk only one block of the infamous market district before I was approached by a nervous-looking guy offering what he promised was a genuine Rolex time piece.

Discerning shopper that I am (even when in the market for fakes), I declined the gentlemans offer and continued to peruse the goods offered in the small cluttered shops. A few “designer sunglasses and hilariously bootlegged copies of current movies later, I ran into another guy promising that he had an “authentic” Rolex watch to sell me. I agreed to take a look at the watch and negotiate.

The street-salesman produced a watch wrapped in a plastic bag which I pointed out was not the intended casing for a true luxury watch. The timepiece had a protective plastic covering on the face and was silver with gold trim along the metallic band. I negotiated with my new friend to pay fully one-fourth of the great deal he wanted to charge. I left Canal Street with fake goods in hand, especially thrilled with myself for being a willing victim to the fake Rolex scam.

When I returned from my trip, I decided to research the differences between the watch I bought and a real Rolex. Of course, my watch was a textbook fake, from the shoddy materials, clear-glass backing, and the inaccurate œdate bubbleâ Below are some tips on how to distinguish a true Rolex from a forgery:

  1. Clear Caseback As previously mentioned, my Rolex features a clear backing so the inner workings of the watch are on display. A few mechanical components inside even display the signature crown to appear more impressive. This is perhaps the easiest to recognize feature of a counterfeit watch, because Rolex has never made a watch with aœskeleton case

    clearcaseback

  2. Cyclops Magnification Bubble The crystal on authentic Rolex watches features cyclops bubble that offers 2.5 times magnification of the date. On fake Rolex watches, this bubble is often off-center or made of glass, and usually approaches only 1.5 times the magnification.

  3. Micro-etched Crystal My counterfeit watch doesn’t even attempt to mimic this feature, but many fakes will try to match the micro-etched Rolex logo that has become standard on genuine watches made after 2002. Rolex began micro-etching their coronet symbol into the crystal just below the 6 Olock position. The mark is so small, it is often difficult to see with the naked eye, but can be identified under magnification. The detail is so precise that counterfeit models often cannot replicate the logo accurately.

  4. Hologram Sticker Again, my fake watch can compete with higher-class fakes, but some forgeries will attempt to re-create the hologram sticker that comes on all Rolex case backs. The sticker features a hologram of the Rolex Crown positioned just above the case reference number. Most forgeries are not hologram stickers at all, but simply patterns that do not change when viewed from different angles.

  5. Triplock Crown Seal – The Daytona, Submariner, and Sea-Dweller models feature an extra seal between the winding tube’s threads. Many replicas will completely leave this feature off or possess a fake seal that serves no practical purpose.

  6. Size and Weight – although it is not the most scientific method for determining a fake, it should be noted that authentic Rolex watches are very sturdy and therefore relatively heavy. Fake watches are made from cheaper materials and typically feel very light. Also, the bands on genuine Rolex watches are full whereas fakes often display hollow links.

  7. Hand Movement – The second hand on a genuine Rolex watch features a smooth and continuous movement that often cannot be duplicated by fake watches. Their movements are often in small, jerky increments.

    rolex hand movement

  8. Sapphire Composition –Many faux-Rolexes will use regular glass instead of true sapphire crystal. A good test of the materials is to check the water surface tension. A smeared film of water will pull together on sapphire due to the extremely smooth surface.

  9. Lettering – Be sure to check the dial of your potential purchase to see if the lettering is precise. Under high-magnification, the type should reveal clean edges not found in many forgeries.

  10. Case Reference Numbers – The serial and case reference numbers can be found in between the lugs on the side of the case. Authentic Rolex numbers are engraved with great detail and are very smooth. The numbers on fake watches often look “sand-blasted” or are roughly etched into the case.

The name Rolex has become synonymous with success and style, and it would be a shame for anyone to be suckered into paying premium prices for a forgery. Trusting a reputable dealer is the best way to obtain a genuine Rolex, but if you must go outside of the typical channels, be sure to use common sense. Do the research, ask questions, and remember if it looks too good to be true…it probably is.

August 26th, 2007

Here is a useful educational exercise to spur your growth along the road of wealth and wealth creation. Sit down with your partner and discuss the history of each of your backgrounds and families of origin which form the basis of your thoughts and concepts of money. That is- what you heard when you were young and impressionable, what was modeled in your famy and any emotional incidents that occurred.

As well find out what money really means to your friend our partner. Is it pleasure or freedom , security or status ?This will help and assist in identifying each other’s current money blueprint and roadmap on the way to wealth and substantial incomes.

Discuss what you want today not as individuals but as a partnership or incorporated company. Decide and agree upon your general goals and attitudes with regard to money and success. Millionaire Mind Belief Thought Patterns

August 20th, 2007

What mind beliefs should be playing and replaying in your mind’s eye on your road to wealth and riches beyond your wildest dreams. A new life so to speak.

Firstly- Get into the game. Consider a situation or project that you have more than wanted to start. Start it now. Begin it immediatley. Whatever you have been waiting for forget it . Whatever you have been waiting for forget it forever. Begin now , from whatever and whatever you are . with whatever you have to work with. Why wait for spring ? Why wait for summer ? Why wait for fall. Now is the time. Time is of the essence and importance. If possible share the exercise with another person – for shared expertise and karma.

2) More than practice optimism and positive thought. You are what you believe you are. The sum can never be more than its parts. If you encounter negative thinking walk away and bypass that negative energy and energies.

3) Focus , focus and focus . Target your goal. Target your goals. Do not be broadly based. Be specific and more than specific. Be more focused and determined than a blackfly going after a blood meal for its brood.

Personal Success Story

Personal Success Story

Today I have a career.  I have 21sources of income and I am in longer of need of a job. I am rich.  More importantly my life is fun, joyful and overly abundant.  It was not always this path for me.

Money used to be burdensome to me – a bother. I trusted foolish strangers to manage my money.  These people worked for companies with double hyphepenated named – because their firms would merge in an effort to reduce costs and avoid obligations.  These people that I entrusted withy my money and wealth actually spent money like drunken sailors.  And yet they carried titles such as “Financial Advisors” and were little more than stuffed shirts. I had lost almost everything in the last stock market “Correction”. My finances and wealth were as they say “Corrected”.

More importantly, I had lost my sense of self respect. Paralyzed with shame, fear and hopelessness I withdrew generally from life, my friends and family.

Now I have reclaimed my life and resolved – attained to take over my own financial destinies.  I have forgiven myself for past mistakes and truly believe that I am wealthy – not only in possessions but in personal security and happiness.

Money Matters in Relationships – Roots or Fruits

August 9th, 2007

Statististics show that the number one cause of all relationship breakups is money and cash. The biggest reason behind the fights that is not the money itself, but the mismatch of approaches. Ultimately it does not matter how much money you have or do not have. If your blueprints , philosophy and plans do not mesh , you will have a conflict of views and a difficult task ahead of yourself.

The key is comprehend and understand that you are dealing with blueprints not money itself. Once you recognize that a person’s money blueprint then you deal with a partner in a way that works for both of you. You can begin by becoming aware that your partner’s money views and background – the tapes in their mind are not the same and indeed may well be different than yours. Instead of getting upset , choose understanding. Do your best to find out what is important to your partner in the area and arena of money . Identify motivations and and fears. In this way you will be dealing with the root causes instead of the fruits . You will have much better percentage chance of things working out.

Modelling and its Role in our Financial and Eventual Wealth Creation Values

August 3rd, 2007

Once must consider the four steps in role modelling of our parents in the creation of our eventual wealth creations and financial value systems.

First there is awareness. Consider the ways of being and habits each of your parents had around money and wealth.

Next there is understanding. Consider and ponder how this had an influence on the creation of your values – financial and otherwise. Be truthful. Write this down. If it is not on paper it does not count.

Do not make up stories and fantasies . One extender of the truth , for example would make up tales in order to sell financial insturments , such as mutual funds = ” Growing up I was always fascinated by wealth ….. we lived …. vacations once a year …… and yet others….. whiskey every week….. and yet my father’s income was the same….. this always fascinated me.” Nothing could be further from the truth. This individual is portraying the responsible financial skills of his parents when the opposite was more than true. In reality this person lived well beyond his means and indeed was proud of it – such as were the role model of his parents who did similarily.

Remember if your evaluation is not on paper it does not count.

Thirdly is disassociation. Can you see this way of being is only what you have learnt and is not you. You have a choice.

You can change your values – on the direction of the road of wealth and riches.

Real Successsfull People Treat Everyone Well and With Respect

August 2nd, 2007

www.substantialincomes.com

Substantial Incomes and Wealth

Real Successsfull People Treat Everyone Well and With Respect. It is a simple lesson but easily forgotten. Or maybe, for some, it was never learned. I admit to neglecting this rule more than once in my career. Maybe because it’s so simple, we disregard its value and its power.I have been fortunate to witness this rule in its full glory. The best examples have been given by my parents and my wife. They have always taken the time and effort to treat everyone they meet with courtesy, respect and warmth. And they do it with great consistency, so I know it comes from their hearts and not their heads.

This never fails to impress me.

But there is a another group of people who have made a similar impact on me. These people are complete strangers to me. At least they all started that way.

I’ll explain.

I’m the kind of person who reaches out to others. I never think about it, I just do it. I read an article I like and I email the writer to tell them. I comment on blog posts. If I read about someone or some organization that impresses me, I’ll often send them an email.

Most of these people never respond. That’s okay. I don’t expect them to. They don’t know me (to them I’m literally a nobody). They’re busy. They have plenty of other things to deal with.

But some do respond.

What surprises me is how many of the “big-name” people respond. People like Guy Kawasaki, Seth Godin, Harry Beckwith, Jeff Fox and David Meerman Scott just to name a few. These people have big audiences, best-selling books and (I assume) busy schedules.

Because of their success, these people have a lot of people who know who they are and who read their stuff. Some of them measure their audiences in the millions. They have climbed to a lofty place in our business world’s hierachy.

As a result, they have a lot of people knocking on their doors. The Internet makes all of us more accessible. The impact to most of us is big. The impact to people like Guy Kawasaki is huge
