Computer Businesses
Product announcements and advertisements in a newspaper-like fashion to their customers are also a good source of business. Companies know that people are more willing to read and trust a story that looks like news rather than advertising. Thus newsletters provide an effective way of disguising ads as objective reporting.
Requirements: What you need depends on how much you will be involved in the newsletter production. If you want to be involved in the writing, then you need creative writing skills and possibly the ability to interview people. Many of your customers, will provide all the articles they want in the newsletter and you just have to use a desktop publishing program to layout the material in a newspaper style. A good printer is needed to produce the final copy. If photographs are included, a digitizer and scanner will be needed and perhaps a paint program to edit the images.
Marketing: Send out your own newsletter (which is an advertisement for your business) dressed up as a press release. Use several story lines such as how more customers would rather read a newsletter than a blatant advertisement and how cost efficient it can be.
Restaurant Menus
Description: Most restaurants have to go to expensive printing companies to get their menus made up. You can provide their menus for a fraction of the cost. A menu is, after all, just a special type of document which can be produced with your desktop publishing software. As an added bonus, you can provide the “Special of the Day” insert in the same fashion as the rest of the menu. Because of high printing costs and slow turn-around time, restaurants must be satisfied with handwritten inserts. You can produce these inserts quickly and easily and have them delivered to the restaurant every morning.
